표본 Sample : Population의 subset
표본을 이용하여 모집단의 특성을 파악하는 학문 : 통계학(Statistics)
통계량 (statistic)은 Sample의 함수이다.
대표적인 통계량은 평균과 분산이다.
i.i.d. : independent identically distributed, 독립항등분포
--> random variable이 independent(독립적이고) identically distribution(같은 확률분포를)가진다는 뜻임
대표적인 통계량의 분포는 정규분포임.
